This project involved the extensive renovation and remodelling of a detached seafront home overlooking Botany Bay in Broadstairs, Kent. We redesigned the property to maximise its relationship with the sea, improve internal flow, and update its aesthetic in line with contemporary standards.
The scheme included a full reconfiguration of the ground and first floors, the addition of a new second-floor master suite, and a series of sensitive rear extensions. The original plastic weatherboard cladding was replaced with crisp white render, complemented by white powder-coated aluminium windows and low-iron glass balustrading to create a clean, coastal-inspired aesthetic.
Key design interventions included a new second floor with a master suite, private terrace and integrated PV panels; open-plan living, dining and kitchen zones with improved natural light and direct connection to the garden; redesigned sunrooms with Juliet and full balconies to enhance sea views; thermal and energy upgrades including solar panel integration; and a re-landscaped driveway with an improved entrance sequence for clearer access and parking.
Throughout the project, great care was taken to respond sensitively to the local context, particularly the coastal setting of Kingsgate and the character of Broadstairs’ seafront. The proposal respected neighbouring properties’ outlook and privacy, while transforming the house into a modern and highly liveable seafront dwelling with stunning views across Botany Bay.
