Tom founded MAAD in 2018, driven by his passion for creating spaces that reflect people and place. He began his architectural journey at the University of Brighton, where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees, followed by a Part III Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Westminster. Under the guidance of experts in sustainable design and innovative technologies, Tom honed his skills and furthered his expertise with additional education in inclusive and sustainable urban development and sustainable cities.
Through working in practices in London, Brighton and Brussels, and eventually opening the MAAD office in Broadstairs, Tom has worked on a wide range of projects. From disaster relief programs in Nepal, to luxury retail design and delivery across the UK and Europe. His extensive work with listed buildings and Conservation Areas, coupled with a robust network of consultants and contractors, ensures the efficiency and clarity required for successful project delivery and unique designs.
Tom has served as a guest critic at the University of Brighton, mentors students annually at UCA and the Kent School of Architecture, and holds talks and workshops for young creatives at the UK Creative Festival at Dreamland, Margate.
In his free time, Tom enjoys painting, photography, travel, long-distance walking with his spaniel Spurge, CrossFit and, of course, good coffee.

Marks joined our team in 2025. He brings a strong eye for visuals and a love for creating bold concepts. Always keen to learn new skills and deepen his knowledge, Marks enjoys pushing his design work in new directions.
He takes pride in contributing wherever he can and brings a positive, energetic approach to every project. His curiosity and focus on how things work shape a thoughtful and detailed design process.
A big admirer of Spurge, Marks also enjoys making digital art, exploring new tech and forcing people to go out on hikes.

Ian joined MAAD in 2026 after relocating from London. He graduated from the University of Brighton and the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL, where he combined his passion for drawing and digital art with a strong interest in ecological and sustainable design.
His project experience ranges from large commercial skyscrapers and medium-scale residential developments, to smaller, high-end bespoke homes.
Ian is driven by the opportunity to create thoughtful, sustainable spaces that shape how people live, work and connect with their environment.
Alongside his architectural work, Ian has worked as an architectural illustrator and, in early 2025, became a proud, full member of the Society of Architectural Illustrators. His passion for art and design extends beyond architecture into painting and portraiture, and he also enjoys participating in occasional joint art exhibitions.

Bella joined the team in 2026 and has many years of experience in the architecture industry.
As Studio Manager, Bella assists the team with the day-to-day operations to keep things running smoothly.
When she's not keeping the studio organised, you'll find her at her sewing machine, out with her dog, or soaking up the calm at her local loch-side sauna.

Spurge has been part of the MAAD family from the very beginning, playing a vital role in our office operations.
Known for his dedication to the team's health and happiness, his days are occupied with people-watching along Albion Street, meeting and greeting, and ensuring his choice of colourful bandana is just right.
